Most of these photos were taken within the grounds of a hotel which was bought after WW2 by a Polish soldier who's been assigned the defense of the east coast of Scotland along with other Polish soldiers who trained and prepared to repel invasion. After the war he settled down with a Scottish nurse and became a very successful hotelier. Inspired by a similar structure in Brussels Jan Tomasik created the map in the grounds of The Barony Castle Hotel over five summers with the help of Polish exchange students. Since its heyday the map has fallen into disrepair but has been awarded lottery funding for restoration.
