Phoenix Based Destructive Art Idea
I had an idea a while ago for a work which only reaches fruition during its destruction. The idea came from the class discussion in Donnie Darko where he says that destruction is a form of creation. I thought of the legends of the phoenix which bursts into flames before being reborn from the ashes. Originally the phoenix only caught fire when being reborn and otherwise would only be distinguished from other birds by an avid watcher.
My idea was to create the wire frame of a bird and wrap the frame in bulb filament which could be turned on or off from a distance. I would then give the model flesh made of paper and paint it to fit the specific descriptions laid out in the Aberdeen Bestiary. If painted with highly flammable substances and displayed in an isolated inflammable container the piece could be displayed daily as achieving the desired visual state when the switch turned on the filament and ignited the paper skin. After the destruction the cycle could continue as a new layer was added ready for a new display the next day.
I laid out the idea as a narrative in blog five of my other blog: http://mindscapewords.blogspot.com/2011/11/blog-5-point-at-end.html

Combination Landscapes
I have been enjoying the combination of landscapes with similar or flattering viewpoints. Through combining endless combinations of my stock of photos I've found few so far which gel nicely. Below I will show the progression of these images as kinks are worked out and images reworked where I saw potential. I don't consider all of them successful but there was potential.

I created this as a presentation space for my writing. I will continue, or restart, using this blog as my sketchbook.
